Instead of storing all information in a single central database managed by a specific company or institution, data can be recorded in successive blocks and made available to multiple participants on the same network.</span></p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How exactly does this mechanism work? Why is it difficult to change information once it has been recorded? Once a block is created and validated by the network, it is added to the chain of previously recorded blocks. Over time, this creates an ever-growing history of recorded operations.</span></p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can compare this to a book in which pages are added one after another. Each new page is linked to the previous one, making it possible to verify the order in which events were recorded.</span></p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A key difference is that, in many blockchains, a copy of such a ledger is not stored on just one server. This limits the ability to unilaterally alter the recorded history.</span></p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, this does not mean that blockchain is always the better solution. Traditional databases are often simpler, faster, cheaper to maintain, and easier to manage. This makes it possible to detect attempts to modify the stored content.</span></p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, a hash is not the same as encryption.</span></p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encryption is primarily used to hide information from people who do not have the appropriate key.
